She has served the academic, public, private, government, educational institutions and faith-based communities in numerous capacities. As a communications professional with a proven track record of success, she has worked with the WHARTON GROUP as a media and public affairs consultant, management development lead, strategic planner and coordinator for various organizations, special events, conferences, and campaigns. She has built an extensive list of community partnerships and media contacts to leverage her ability to effectively design implement and manage internal and external communications and marketing programs, projects, information campaigns, promotions to achieve organizational goals beyond expectations. Mandar Jadhav, M.D. (APAF Jeanne Spurlock Congressional Fellow @DoctorJadhav) Dr. Jadhav is working on comprehensive mental health reform packages in both Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee and Senate Finance Committee. The former committee touches Parity (employer insurance), Interstate Licensure, and crucial SAMHSA & HRSA programs’ reauthorization. In the latter his office is co-chairing the pediatric mental health bucket (Medicaid, CHIP and ACA Marketplace plans). Both committees’ process is expected to finish up by fall 2022, at which point these legislative packages would be advanced to the Senate floor for voting. He has been contributing to the office’s work on Veterans’ mental health through Senate Veterans Affairs Committee on an issue-by-issue basis. Kathy Orellana (APA Senior Regional Director, State Government Relations @kaymo93) Kathy Orellana is a Senior Regional Director in the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) Department of Government Relations. In this role, she helps APA’s district branches in the Northeast and on the West Coast influence state policy to improve the delivery of mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Prior to that, she worked as an Associate Director in APA’s Department of Policy, Programs and Partnerships, where she managed the Association’s public policy initiatives on substance use disorders, minority health, and Medicaid. Before coming to APA, she supported nonprofit clients focused on healthy equity and the social determinants of health through policy counsel, advocacy training, legislative monitoring, and coalition management. Kathy also worked as a clerk for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the Food and Drug Administration, where she planned regulatory meetings.
