The automotive industry is moving ahead with advanced driver assistance features, including partially automated systems that should make driving safer. These Level 2 systems, such as Autopilot and Super Cruise, are becoming more advanced but still require constant supervision by the driver. The challenge is keeping drivers engaged while using these systems. Driver monitoring systems should help this situation but might be encouraging the wrong behavior because of some of the current implementations.
